Workshop and Production Manager

Job Function:

You will be responsible for managing a team of staff, workshop activities, workshop equipment and tooling. You will be Responsible for all production/manufacturing activities both in house and outside the offices, You will be responsible for  both current and new products ensuring that all appropriate customer requirements, company standards, and HSE considerations are applied and adhered to. You will ensure products are manufactured in an economical and timely manner; ensuring company quality standards are met.


Main duties & responsibilities:

Your core responsibilities include:

Staff management.

  • Manage the day to day activities of your staff in line with company policies, procedures and company handbook.
  • Lead and motivate your team ensuring the business and contract needs are met.
  • Organise & provide training and support where required.
  • Set individual and team performance objectives.
  • Monitor and record staff performance and time keeping.

Production management.

  • Coordinate Production activities working closely with other department managers ensuring the deliverables are met.
  • Prepare production documentation for individual orders (batches) based on Master Product documents, liaise with Engineering and R&D departments, and issue them for production
  • Oversee the production process through to Test and Despatch
  • Monitoring and record production labour costs.
  • Manage and keep records of production and contract activities. Via paper and electronic means, including Sage software.
  • Be the custodian of production procedures inclusive of authoring and revision of procedures where necessary
  • Participation in Health, Safety & Environmental issues
  • Ensure staff adhere to all PPE requirements.
  • Participate in assembly and test where required.
  • Provide production reports as required
  • Investigate and establish new ways of working including new staff participation, new processes and tools.
  • Carry out time and motion studies

Workshop facility management.

  • Maintain the workshop in a tidy organised manner at all times.
  • Adhere to QHSE requirements at all times.
  • Manage  all workshop activities including those undertaken by other departments within the business
  • Manage and control workshop access
  • Manage workshop budgets
  • Work closely with the quality manager , ensuring inspections and  conformance is maintained
  • Manage and maintain all workshop tools and equipment in a tidy controlled manner. Maintain all records
  • Participate in company conformance checks

KTP Associate - Ultrasonic Engineering

Do you have a strong background in ultrasonics at PhD level? Are you a multi-talented candidate keen to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop disruptive technologies of tomographic applications with end users in the oil & gas industry?

We have an opportunity for you to ‘fast track’ your career in industry by leading a strategically important project to a successful conclusion. Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will be working in partnership with Oil & Gas Measurement Ltd. and the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds, one of the UK’s leading research intensive universities. This will provide an excellent opportunity for you to utilise your academic achievements in an industry setting.

Oil & Gas Measurement Ltd. (OGM) produces high quality products for the Oil & Gas Industry Custody Transfer applications. The KTP will develop and optimise a Wide-Band UltraSonic Tomography (WBUST), algorithm and hardware for Multiphase Flow Metering (MPFM) for application in the oil and gas industry. You will be working as an integral part of a team making decisions on the design and user experience of automated and predictive flow metering platforms focussing on the development of embedded firmware and software.

You will be based at the company premises in Ely, Cambridgeshire, but will be employed by the University of Leeds for the duration of the project, a fixed period of 36 months, spending no more than 7 months total at the University, in short periods. Travel between Cambridge and Leeds, and accommodation in Leeds, will be funded. The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering will provide academic and technical support to you throughout the project. 

You will have access to a training and development package worth £6,000, to be spent according to your needs and the project’s requirements, enabling you to work effectively on the KTP, and to plan for your future career. Additionally, you will attend two weeks of residential KTP training to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to complete the project successfully, for which time is allocated and funding provided.

In addition to the challenges of the post, you will be expected to work towards a chartered membership of an appropriate professional body.

OGM offers a supported programme towards Chartered Engineer status, as well as a discretionary annual performance-based bonus.

Health & Safety Officer

We are seeking a Health & Safety Officer to work with the QHSE Manager to manage and implement health & safety management systems across the business, provide health & safety advice and support across the business and manage operational activities.

Duties include:-

Management Systems Development:

Pro-active development of health & safety management systems across the company, in line with objectives and policy.

Gather data and information from across the business to;

  • Oversee compliance with statutory obligations and the requirements of the International Standard
  • Review arrangements for effectiveness
  • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Facilitate process improvement activities as requested by the QHSE Manager

Ensure an annual review of health & safety policies and objectives is held and programmes to implement these objectives are undertaken.

Ensure the scheduling of, and attendance at, management review meetings

Ensure the audit schedule and QHSE action trackers are kept up to date.

Carry out internal health & safety compliance audits as requested by the QHSE Manager.

Act as a company representative during external audits.

Ensure a coherent and accurate system for the provision of, monitoring and control of COSHH risk assessments is in place and communicated appropriately.

Monitoring of health and safety and welfare arrangements through monthly management tours at Denmark House.

Ensure that health & safety training needs are identified to the QHSE Manager.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate detailed technical advice to the QHSE Manager
  • Provide competent health and safety advice to the QHSE Manager, managers and staff.
  • Provide contractor and staff Induction training
  • Undertake accident, incident and near miss investigation
  • Liaise with and advise the Administration Officer to ensure that contractor and building health and safety requirements are being met.
  • Review of contractor risk assessments and method statements
  • Ensure that accurate, meaningful and informative statistics are produced for management review in line with any performance indicators identified.
  • Review the contents of the Risk Matrix
  • Ensure that the Legal Register is kept up to date
  • Undertake periodic risk assessment reviews
  • Ensure that RIDDOR incidents are reported to the HSE
  • Ensure that health surveillance and monitoring is provided for identified employees.
  • Safe System of Work requirements, (Procedures RAMS etc.) are in place
  • Periodic sampling surveys are carried out at Gorseinon and action is taken to ensure legal compliance when appropriate.
  • LOLER Inspections for lifting accessories at OGM and OGS sites.
  • Management system internal and external audit requirements
  • Any other reasonable requests are undertaken to meet business requirements

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer for the design and selection of electrical equipment within the Oil & Gas industry to join our team based in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Main duties and Responsibilities

Conceptual electrical scope review at the proposals stage to determine the requirements for all electrical design.

Review and interpretation of customer specifications and national & international codes and ensuring that best industry practice and Health, Safety & Environmental considerations are applied and adhered to.

Detailed electrical design work throughout the life of each project in support of the Project Manager, providing solutions to issues that may arise.

  • Working collaboratively within the discipline group.

Oil & Gas Measurement Limited (OGM) and its sister systems company, Oil & Gas Systems Limited (OGS), are both based at our premises in Ely, just north of Cambridge. Oil & Gas Holdings (OGH) is the corporate holding company to both OGS and OGM, which also has other associated companies in the oil and gas industry worldwide.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering design team providing mechanical design support for the oil and gas industry.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be involved in taking responsibility for design; starting from initial 3D modelling and 2D drafting of concepts right through to detailed design for production, with a focus on design for manufacture / assembly (DFM/A). The design work will include the following:

  • Development of new products
  • Re-design of existing products for improvements and/or cost reductions
  • Customising existing product(s) for a customer with specific needs
  • Development of jigs, fixtures for product test and manufacture

Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other departments, this mechanical design role will involve:

  • 3D modelling using Autodesk Inventor
  • 2D drafting using AutoCAD Mechanical
  • Producing detailed designs for the production of products to relevant codes and standards
  • Production of design calculations to relevant directives and codes
  • Production of technical files
  • Production of BOMs
  • Production of manuals, test procedures and reports
  • Checking and approving designs and calculations

Candidates applying will ideally hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Mechanical Engineering and are most likely to have at least 10 years’ experience in mechanical design within the oil and gas (or related) industry, coupled with a sound knowledge of ASME codes/standards, British, European and ISO codes and standards. A sound background in mechanical product design, along with a high level of experience in 3D modelling is essential, preferably using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD but other packages could be considered. In addition, you will ideally have knowledge and experience of using Autodesk Vault Professional.

We are seeking a person who is able to undertake hand calculations when required and has a good understanding of manufacturing, welding and fabrication techniques. DFM/DFA is an important aspect of this role, including the knowledge and experience of interfacing with manufacturing companies in parts fabrication and production, in order that the design process takes into account manufacturing and assembly processes.

Production of products is at a low to medium volume so a good understanding of design for production vs. producing ‘one of a kind’ is advantageous.

Whilst you will work partly on an individual basis, there will be a need for team-working, therefore, good communication skills are a must, in order to exchange technical ideas and concepts both in writing and orally. You will have an organised work style with great attention to detail and you will possess the drive and commitment to maintain a task’s momentum in order to meet deadlines. The ability to adapt to change and refocus, when required, will also be expected.
